Taking some time off is perhaps one of the best activities that a person would love to do, especially after being burdened by long office work hours or spent by boring household troubles. Having a getaway is more than good news that would take an individual to a different place, where all unwanted disturbance and stress would just become a thing of the past – for the meantime.

But not everything is pleasure and excitement when it comes to traveling; along with the trip, one has to make sure he brings everything he may require throughout the extent of the trip – in other words, packing. Whether we like it or not, packing is a part of any vacation experience. Whether you're headed to a hawaiian getaway, or going skiing in Austria, you'll need to bring proper clothing and the requisite travel gears.

But don't worry, whether you're heading to somewhere sandy, uphill, or contemporary, I've listed down 10 things you should bring for your trip.

FULLY-POCKETED KNAPSACK/ WHEELED-TRAVELLING BAG: It's vital to keep in mind what sort of bag to carry on your vacation. If you're going on an island or beachside destination, choose a backpack or strapped-bags because wheeled bags can't run in sand. But if you're heading somewhere with less sand, particularly an urban destination, I suggest you carry a wheeled bag for ease of use. In addition, opt for bags that have more pockets. In this way, your things would be more sorted and won't eat up much room for other things you'll need to bring.

SMALL and EASY TO CARRY DAYPACK: Compact and light, a daypack is an important part of your day to day outing while on a vacation. Here you can carry bottled water, small sunscreen lotion, medications, snacks, and other important stuff. Instead of going back to your hotel or residence, make sure your daypack is comprehensive before you leave and check out the locale.

Money belt and extra cash – During traveling, it's unavoidable that you'll need to shed out some money. Remember to always carry a couple more extra greens than your predicted budget for those ‘just in case' moments. If you'll ask me, credit cards are the way to go. But keep in mind that there are places where they don't accept credit cards, and finding an ATM machine would be much of a headache. So just have a couple of extra bills and make sure you always keep them safe and secured from pick-pockets and other forms of theft. A good money belt is a good solution to this regular problem.

Safety and vanity kits – Traveling doesn't necessarily mean letting yourself go. When packing, never ever forget to bring your toiletries with you (yes, they should have some space in that already crammed bag). They are, after all, your protection against unwanted odor and skin conditions. A first aid kit that carries basic remedies and wound cleaning agents is also just as useful as the previous. Remember, you'll never know what you may encounter during your travels, that's why it's important to constantly stay ready for any form of emergency.

Proper head-to-toe essentials – These are not only part of human's principal needs, but also one's fundamental travel necessity. Be it for swim wear or heavy coats, having appropriate attires are a rule of thumb when traveling. Plus, taking some comfortable foot wear should also be on the list, no matter if your feet's comfort is defined by a pair of furry boots or a pair of colorful flip-flops.

Eclectic electrical doodads – Bringing some of your gadgets like cellular phones, laptops, mp3 players, and even portable appliances might be necessary, so do include the requisite voltage converters and plug adapters. Wrong voltages can damage your things, so you might as well bring them to save your valuable electronics from short circuits, and save yourself from money-shortage that can be brought about by the emergency repair of your items.

Battery-operated doohickeys and batteries – Although your cellphone's probably got a gazillion features that include an alarm clock and camera. It's generally important to bring an extra doohickey for a specified function just in case your phone (or its battery) fails you. Remember that a phone's principal function is for communication, and you might want to keep your phone alive exactly for that. So make an extra room in your baggage for these minor treats and bring supplemental batteries along just in case.

Research notes and maps -One blunder most travelers make is taking research for granted. One might be amazed how well a bit of information about an area can do you good. So research before you head off. Write the information you've gathered down or print them if you can. No one would want to mess up their vacation just because they forgot to bring a map or take down important notes about the location.

WEATHER SHIELDS: If you're heading for a sandy or hot-weathered location, never forget to apply sun block/sunscreen lotion to avoid getting too tan or procuring a skin disease while travelling. With global warming heating up the world, never forget your sunglasses and umbrella to protect against getting a heat stroke. For vacationers going to a cold and chilly spot, carry a hat or waterproof jacket to avoid getting drenched in case it rains.

Back-up Documents – Never take this one for granted. It's always best to make sure that your identifications and travel documents are safe and photocopied before you head off anywhere. Having copies of these documents can help you in more ways than one in the event that you lose them.

No matter how good your travel gears are, it wouldn't be enough without equipping yourself with the proper attitude when traveling. Being extra optimistic is essential to enjoy your whole travel and being extra careful to keep yourself and your things safe is indispensable to avoid unwanted mishaps. As the author Regina Nadelson said, "Most travel is best of all in the anticipation or the remembering; the reality has more to do with losing your luggage".

Planning A Backpacking Trip

When you want to have a lot of fun on a vacation, you should choose a backpacking trip. This would offer you an excellent method to gain firsthand knowledge about any place you visit. This method of traveling is excellent for those who want to absorb the real local flavor because while traveling on foot you would see and experience things that you would otherwise miss. While this way of vacationing is excellent, you need to take extra care to ensure your personal safety.

It is true that a backpacking vacation can offer you some amazing insights about the locales you'll be visiting. This is because you would be able to live, see and experience the real place in total detail, which you would have missed had you stayed at a comfortable made-for-tourists hotel, villa or serviced apartment. Backpacking would give you a first hand knowledge of the local customs, traditions and many amazing things that only locals know and enjoy. The best part is that since you would not be using expensive hotel reservations, you would be able to afford many more fun things during your travels.

In order to enjoy your backpacking trip you need to take a few precautions. The first thing you would need is an accurate and up to date travel guide. Since you would be traveling a lot on foot and local transport, you should know where you are going and where you are at all times. You would also need to be well informed about the local customs, especially the things that are illegal, as this could land you into serious trouble. It is also wise to travel in the company of at least one more person for safety. It is also recommended that you keep someone informed at all times about where you are and where you are going. In case of any mishap, help could be sent immediately.

You will find that no vacation can be more fun or enriching than a backpacking trip. This method is one of the best ways to learn about any place since you would have to rub shoulders with the locals and by doing so, you would be able to absorb the realty of that place. Your enjoyment would be boundless, as long as you take care of your safety at all times.

Consider Lightweight Backpacking For A More Enjoyable Trip

backpacking hiking

Backpacking can be a very enjoyable activity, full of fun experiences that can leave an individual with many wonderful memories, but not if all they remember is traveling with a heavy, overstuffed backpack. For traditional backpackers, toting around 30 to 50 pounds of backpacking equipment is the norm. Yet not all individuals can or would want to be burdened with all of that weight. This is why many are taking to lightweight backpacking. Lightweight backpackers travel with a considerably less amount of gear, bringing backpacking equipment down to between 12 to 20 pounds. This can alleviate a lot of stress from the body and cause a more enjoyable trip.

Individuals who enjoy lightweight backpacking are able to maneuver the trails faster and more easily than those carrying 30 to 50 pounds of backpacking equipment with them. Heavy gear can cause increased chances of having an injury, experiencing exhaustion and falling from poor foot placement. A backpacking traveler who is not weighed down with a lot of excess equipment can use their energy to enjoy the trip itself.

When backpacking hiking with less gear, simply do not take more than what you know you will need. Many people tend to pack duplicate equipment just in case, but many people never need the duplicate gear. Believe it or not, packing your everyday 12 ounce tube of toothpaste or your ultra mega bottle of sunscreen can add to the weight content of your backpack very quickly, yet you will never need those amounts of products for a weekend or even a week long trip.

Instead, try packing trial size bottles of products so that you are more comfortable when traveling. Another item that can significantly add to your backpacking weight is packing unnecessary food. This is where deliberate food planning comes in. Many lightweight backpackers have found that packing food consistent with a 2,000 calorie a day diet relieves them of a lot of weight.

This averages out to about 1.5 pounds of daily food and can actually reduce the average backpacker's weight by over 5 pounds, in food alone. While there are other items that can be deleted from your backpack to drop weight, starting with items like these can get you off and running.

Backpacking can be a enjoyable activity but one that can become very cumbersome, if a individual's backpack becomes extremely heavy. If you become a weary traveler, what fun will you really have? Lightweight backpacking allows individuals the freedom to do more activities. While there are individuals who can handle the heavy 30 to 50 pound packs while traveling, without any problems, is it truly necessary? If you can take all that you need for your weekend or even week long trip in a 12 to 20 pound, or even 25 pound pack, then why wouldn't you?
